I'm having trouble getting further than the 1790s in my genealogy search.?

Hye Caulley: Birth certificates as a civil record were not issued until about 1830 so there would not be one for Peter Waite. Census prior to 1840 didn't record each member of the household, only the head. You might find something it Probate records or other court documents.

Burt Stoecklin: Here is the information as shown in his DAR record:WAIT, JONATHAN Ancestor #: A120330 Service: MASSACHUSETTS Rank: SOLDIER Birth: 1-12-1764 DANVERS MASSACHUSETTS Death: 1-12-1821 DANVERS MASSACHUSETTS Spouse Name 1)BETSY/ELIZABETH BROWN Have you checked New England Historic Genealogy Society and Danvers Genealogy Society?...Show more

Will Camus: So where are you looking for a 'birth certificate' in 1790? Was their civil registration in the country you are looking in? It is late so it might be that, but if you are looking in MA for a birth certificate I think you will find it unlikely, you would need to be looking for church records, so a baptism record..... ! so you need to search PRs for that and once you find it, you then look in the banns book to find the marriage and you then should have two primary records for his parents names.........................................Show more
