Fritz Hawkey: The Law of Conservation of Matter says that you can not create or destroy matter.Conservation of mass is similar in that you can not gain or lose mass without an explanation. It says that all equations for chemical reactions must be balanced. This means that there must be the same number and kinds of atoms on each side.
Madge Voice: the law of conservation of mass states that matter can neither be made nor destroyed. this is completely true unless one is talking about nuclear reactions when matter can be converted to energy with the equation E = mc^2. so, in general chemistry, the mass of the reactants must be equal the mass of the products.
