Study Abroad in High School?

Merlin Fleischhacker: Hi Chloe, Studying abroad in high school is actually a really great way to stand out in college admissions! While many kids take AP classes, not as many go abroad -- it's pretty rare to see a high school student who has done an exchange program in the United States, partially because most U.S. high schools don't have a history of doing study abroad. However, this is why high school students who study abroad stand out on college applications. It takes a lot of time, dedication, and motivation to manage a study abroad experience, especially because high schools often do not have the ability to send you on program themselves. The ability to self-motivate and spend a lot of time and effort on an endeavor like studying abroad is a good sign to colleges; it shows that you can succeed in a college environment where you will often have to be self-motivated and dedicated in order to achieve academic goals.
